Bot & Telegram Setup October 04, 2026

How do I use my bot to moderate a Telegram group?

I run a Telegram group for my clients and course members, and spam bots keep posting links there. Can my TeleGo bot delete them and mute or ban repeat offenders?

Best answer

Yes. Your bot can remove spam, scam links and rude messages from your client or course group on its own, so you don't clean the chat by hand. Moderation is a section of your bot's settings; no scenario is needed.

Set it up

  1. Open Bots → your bot → Moderation.
  2. In Groups, press Add to group. Telegram suggests adding the bot as an admin; keep the rights Delete messages and Ban users.
  3. Return to TeleGo. The group appears in the list within about a minute.
  4. Turn on Moderate groups and press Save Changes.

Choose rules

  • Links and invites (with an allow list for your own site and channels)
  • Profanity (built-in dictionaries for several languages, or AI-drafted ones for any language)
  • Forbidden words, Forwards from channels, Flood, New members, Posting as a channel
  • AI filter for spam, scams, insults and adult content (uses your plan's AI tokens)

Penalties and the journal

  • A violating message is always deleted. Repeat offenders get the next step: by default a warning, a 1-hour mute, a 1-day mute, then a ban.
  • Every action goes to the Journal, where Lift removes a mute or ban in one click.
  • Not sure about the rules yet? Turn on Test mode (only log): the bot only records what it would do.

One bot can moderate up to 5 groups with the same rules. For a channel, add the bot to the channel's discussion group to moderate comments. Learn more: Group Moderation.
